Every time I find out that there’s a beauty pageant on television I make sure that I watch it. It is hard for me to pass up this kind of competition because it only happens once a year. My husband is not a fan but every time I ask him to record it for me he does it without objection. I always root for the Philippines and the USA in every competition. Philippines because it is my home country and the USA because it is my current country of residence.

I thought that Miss Philippines wouldn’t make it to the top 15 because there was only one spot left after fourteen had been announced. I was pretty sure that the last spot would go to Miss USA. When the host called Miss Philippines for the final spot, I screamed at the top of my lungs to my surprise.

When the swimsuit competition started, I was paying close attention to the scores that were flashed on the screen after every candidate. I wanted to see if Miss Philippines had a chance to make it to the top 10. Miss Philippines was one of the top three highest for the swimsuit competition. When the top ten were revealed she was called up third but that was in random order and not an indication of the score.

There were ten candidates competing in the evening gown competition. The top five candidates who received the highest scores would move on. Miss Philippines had chosen an elegant flowing white gown and that got her to the last group. I was hoping that she could pull off the win in the Q & A portion because she has brains and graduated from college with honors. Unfortunately, she randomly picked the worst questions of all the girls. The question was, “What was the biggest mistake of your life and what did you do to make it right?” I did not like the question in the first place because it was too personal and invasive, especially compared to the questions that the other girls got. She answered that she had never made a really big mistake in her life which may or may not have been true, but it came across as self righteous and proud. As a result she ended up as fourth runner up.

Congratulations Miss Philippines, Venus Raj. Even though you did not get the crown, you are still a winner. By the way, Miss Philippines was the crowd favorite of the night. One of the hosts even said that it felt like the whole country of the Philippines was there that evening. It was obvious that there was a large contingency of Filipinos in the audience that night. Probably because these kinds of competitions are very popular in the Philippines.

Today is my nephew’s birthday party. He celebrates his first birthday. They roasted a pig and butchered a goat. They woke up very early today to get the roasting started. It was only five o’clock in the morning when I called but they were already up and busy. The celebrant also woke up early. I tried to talk to him on the phone to wish him a happy birthday but he would just push the phone to his mother. I can’t wait to see the pictures. I always drool while looking at all those tasty goodies. I guess I will have to settle for pictures since I can’t be there.

I am proud of my brother for being honored as one of the top twenty achievers in their class of 217 students. No one was expecting his award and we were all surprised about it, even my brother himself. He is now in his second year in nursing at a private Catholic university. I am hoping that he will continue to do well in all of his studies.

James Reid and Ann Li are also known as JamLi.  I started to like this love-team since they were still in the Big Brother house.  They were part of the Teenternational housemates.  Even though James Reid is half Filipino, he was in the Teenternational group because he doesn’t speak Tagalog.  He is a Filipino-Australian.   Ann Li, on the other hand, is a Taiwanese-Chinese.

Ann Li’s label was a Diligent Daughter of Taiwan while James Reid was a Dashing Dude of Australia.  James is a quiet and shy person while Ann is friendly and outgoing.

I was not really interested in watching the PBB Teen Clash edition because I was still hooked on the Double Up.  Ann caught my attention first because she was smart and fun to watch.  She always had something to talk about.

After watching a few video clips of Teen Clash edition online, I noticed something “special” between her and James.  Actually it was James because of the way he looked at Ann.  I saw his eyes twinkling when  he looked at her.  After a week of following them, my day wouldn’t be complete if I couldn’t watch them.  My husband even told me I was going “gaga” over them.  He saw me smiling and giggling in front of my computer while watching their videos.

I am a certified JamLi fan.  I have been keeping updated about them at JamLi fan page on Facebook.  JamLi fever is real.  This is a team up that has talent, looks and personality and draws viewers without effort.  Nothing can be more real and inspiring than these two teenternational housemates.

Don’t James and Ann look good together?  They look good in the pictures and much more in person.  I hope someday I will be able to meet them when I vacation in the Philippines.  Hopefully two years from now .  That is quite a long way off but time flies fast.

I have been watching a fashion TV series lately. I have been trying to get ideas about clothing design and especially hair styling that I can apply to myself. I was even thinking about taking some short term classes in beauty school. Unfortunately, I can’t do that anytime soon because I have other higher priorities to deal with.
