Charice on Glee

I saw Charice’s performance many years ago when she joined the singing competition, the Little Big Star. I was not a big fan of the show at the time so I did not follow her after that. Even though I had only seen her once performing on television, I could remember that she had an incredible voice for her age and she could be a big star. It seemed like it would be only a matter of time before she would have her own albums and concerts.

I saw a few video clips online when she performed on Star King talent show in Korea. I had goose bumps while watching the videos. I also watched when she was invited to the Ellen DeGeneres show. I was proud that she could get an invitation to appear on the US television program. I watched the video online many times and still couldn’t get enough of her performance. When I found out that she would be a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show, I set my digital video recorder to catch her performance. I wanted to watch her on a much bigger screen. I was teary eyed while watching the show.  Who would have thought that a little girl from the Philippines would gain such worldwide recognition. Thanks to Charice’s avid fan, FalseVoice, for posting a series of her performances on Youtube.

I can’t wait to watch Charice on Glee. I will set my recorder for that so I won’t miss the show. I am anticipating how Charice will look, especially after getting Botox injections ;-) . I don’t like that idea, especially because she is just 18 years old, but I will still watch her debut on Glee.

Gold Bullion

Many people say that the best way to preserve your family’s wealth is to invest in gold and other precious metals. It is a unique kind of investment, especially in these uncertain economic times. For many years, the value of gold keeps going up even though we sometimes notice momentary fluctuations in the market. At the United States Gold Bureau you can purchase gold, silver or other precious metals for immediate personal delivery or arrange for convenient and safe storage. You can buy gold in coins or bullion form. There may never be a better time to buy gold bullion than right now.

Earthquake in Moro Gulf

I am originally from the Philippines but my hubby who is not a native of that country is always the first to find out the latest of what’s going on there. He reads a lot of news online as part of his daily routine. Even though I got up early before him this morning, I was working on my blogs and hadn’t read any news. He asked me if I knew where the Moro Gulf is in the Philippines. I had never heard of it before so we looked it up on Google Earth. He said that several 7+ magnitude earthquakes struck that area on Friday & Saturday. I found out that the Moro Gulf is located southwest of Cotabato, Mindanao. According to what I read online, a destructive tsunami was not generated. I am thankful that there was no tsunami because that could have caused great devastation to the island that I am from.

Typhoon in Luzon

Twenty six people were reported killed and more were missing after typhoon Conson hit northern Luzon earlier this week. Manila and nearby provinces were plunged into darkness as the result of numerous power outages and flooding was wide spread. The Philippines is an unfortunate to be a constant target of many typhoons. I grew up there and I have experienced the devastation that typhoons can cause to people’s lives. In addition to loss of life there is much crop damage and loss of livelihood.

Still vivid in my memories are those times when a typhoon hit my province. My family and neighbors would have to leave their homes and take shelter in the nearby church basement. We had to pack the things we would take with us and try to secure the rest inside the house with plastic and what other means we could find. Even though I am now living here in the US, my family is still there in the Philippines and they still experience typhoons. Early warning is necessary so that they can be well prepared when the typhoon hits. The newly elected president was critical of the weather bureau for failing to accurately forecast this latest storm.

New Philippine President

Benigno Aquino III, also known as Noynoy Aquino, was elected as the President of the Republic of the Philippines recently. He is the son of the former president Corazon Aquino and former senator Benigno Aquino, Jr. If I was in the Philippines during the latest election, I would have voted for him. Unfortunately, I don’t know how I could vote from abroad. Hopefully during his presidency, the Philippines will change for the better. I may live thousands of miles away from home but during the height of the election campaign, I was quite aware of many of the issues that were being debated.

Thanks to the advent of the internet, it is easy for me to keep track of what is going on back home. I can have video conversations with my family there in the Philippines and chat with my new niece in Germany as well. It is not quite like being there in person but it is the next best thing. I would be lost and lonely without it.
